Community commitments
Imation’s Community Affairs and Corporate Contributions Guidelines are designed to reflect Imation’s corporate commitment to the health and vitality of the communities in which the company employs people and conducts business. Imation recognizes that the well-being of the community reflects on its success and its ability to attract quality employees from around the world.
Contribution Guidelines
Contributions are generally made to community based organizations. Nonprofit organizations must qualify for tax exempt status according to IRS code 501 (c) (3) as charitable/educational organizations, and comply with state charities law.
Contribution requests are reviewed quarterly and made directly to the organization, thereby reflecting Imation's corporate commitment to the nonprofit community.
Geographic Priority
Contributions will be directed to community affairs programs at key Imation locations nationwide.
- Organizations will be considered if they are located in major Imation locations including the Twin Cities, Weatherford, OK; Wahpeton, ND; Camarillo & Cerritos, CA; Weston, Fl; and Southaven, MS.
- For those Twin Cities organizations that serve a specific neighborhood or a more narrowly focused community, priority will be given to those located in St. Paul and Eastern suburbs.
- Contributions to national
organizations will be considered if they:
- have strong employee involvement and/or
- strongly enhance Imation’s community affairs objectives and guidelines in Imation locations.
Diversity
Imation contributions will reflect a balance between the ethnically
diverse communities in Imation locations.
Contribution Categories
Contribution dollars will be allocated according to the following
categories:
- Education
- Arts and Culture
- Human Services
Education
Education grants will focus on the following:
- K-12 education, business/education partnerships, special education programs and inner city schools;
- Public and private educational institutions that produce people and services which fit Imation’s interests and needs;
- Economic education.
Arts & Culture
Priority will be given to:
- Major arts and cultural organizations in the Twin Cities area with an emphasis on organizations with strong outreach to diverse audiences
- Established, mid-sized organizations with budgets between $200,000 and $2.5 million;
Human Services
Priorities will be given to:
- Programs that focus on life and job development skills for youth.
- Programs that encourage the disadvantaged and those with significant barriers to employment to become self-sufficient.
Memberships
Membership organizations that meet Imation's Community Affairs
goals are supported through this category.
Federated Drives
United Way is included in Imation's payroll deduction plan. In
addition to employee contributions nationwide, an annual grant
is made to the
United Way organization located in major Imation communities.
Community Events Policy
Imation will consider proposals to fund community events in key
company locations, when there is significant economic impact on
that local
community.
The organization hosting the event must qualify as a 501(c) (3)
and fit Imation's charitable giving priorities. Excluded are professional
sporting events, marathons and fundraisers.
Exclusions/Limitations
Imation’s Community Affairs and Contributions Program will
not make contributions to
- Individuals
- Loans or investments programs
- Re-granting organizations
- Political/lobbying organizations
- Religious organizations
- Endowment funds
- Capital campaigns
- Fundraising activities such as; bowl-a-thons, walk-a- thons, bike-a-thons, etc.
- Industry, trade or professional association
memberships
Limited exceptions on the basis of corporate relationships or direct senior management participation will be considered for
- Tables and special event sponsorship
- Sporting events sponsor (e.g. Golf, etc)
Application Process
Funding proposals are accepted on an ongoing basis and reviewed
quarterly. All proposals received will be acknowledged within
90 days of receipt.
Organizations requesting contributions are encouraged to use
the Minnesota
Common Grant Application Form.

- Name of organization/agency and complete contact information
- Organization mission
- Goals and objectives
- 501(c)(3) verification
Please be sure to attach the additional information listed below:
- A brief history of your organization---its mission, goals and objectives
- An explanation of the program/project for which funds are being sought
- How the program/project works or will work
- How and to what extent the program will further Imation goals for grants
- Future plans of the program
- How and when program/project results will be measured Current budgets (income and expense) for the program and for the organization
- A list of current contributors and pending grants
- Your most recent annual report and audit
- A list of your organization's board of directors
