TDK Life on Record Now Shipping LTO Ultrium 5 Tape Media

Next-generation tape cartridges offer up to 3 TB compressed storage capacity, fast data transfer rates, new partitioning functionality

OAKDALE, Minn. (March 30, 2010) –TDK Life on Record, a portfolio brand of Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN) today announced that it is shipping TDK Life on Record brand LTO Ultrium Generation 5 tape cartridges. This newest generation of the widely adopted LTO Ultrium tape format has 1.5 terabytes of native capacity (3.0 terabytes compressed), a near doubling of capacity over the previous generation, and data transfer rates of up to 280 MB per second compressed. The LTO Generation 5 also includes new partitioning functionality, which can enable file control and space management.

Features
LTO Ultrium 5 is the second generation to offer drive level hardware-based encryption of data being written to the tape cartridge, providing additional security for the storage and transport of sensitive data. LTO ULtrium 5 also offers WORM (Write-Once, Read-Many) functionality. The LTO Ultrium format generation 5 drives are read-and-write backwards compatible with the Ultrium format generation 4 cartridges, and backward read capable with generation 3 cartridges, helping to protect investments and ease implementation.
