- Use labels specified for magnetic tape, and place only in designated label areas.
- Inspect cartridges prior to use for damage, leaderblock or leader pin not seated, and write protect status. Do not attempt to pull tape out of the cartridge.
- Use proper shipping practices inside and outside of data center. Containers should include shock absorption and protect the cartridges against debris, excessive humidity/moisture, etc.
- Do not expose cartridges to extreme environmental conditions. Refer to Imation’s website for specific temperature and humidity conditions by product.
- Do not touch the tape surface.
- Acclimate cartridges to their usage environment for at least 24 hours before using in the library.
- Assure that cartridges are not exposed to dust and debris in any environment. Airborne debris can cause media errors.
- Do not degauss servo-written media, and do not expose media to high magnetic fields.
- Assure that drives and automation are working per manufacturer's specifications.
- Use cleaner cartridges as specified by hardware manufacturer. Note: Different tape technologies have different requirements for cleaning.
