When printing only on a Mac the printed image has random black lines printed in white areas or dotted line artifacts around images or on the edges of the disc.
(Macintosh Only)

A configuration setting needs to be adjusted in the driver. Use the following instructions:

  1. Go to the Macintosh HD - Library - Printers - Primera - Disc PublisherPro/XRP/SE folder. (The folder name will be different depending on which product you own.)

  2. Select the DiscPubXRPCfg, DiscPubProCfg or DiscPubSECfg file. (Do not confuse this file with the DiscPubXRPConfig utility)

  3. Right Click or Control+left click on this file to display a menu. Choose Open With - Other from the menu.

  4. The applications folder will open. Scroll to the bottom of the list. Choose TextEdit. Click Open.

  5. Add the following lines of text to this file after the entry. (Copy and paste the text below into this window.)
    <key>ImageSharpening</key>
    <integer>12</integer>

  6. The properly entered settings should look like the image below.

  7. Close the file and click Save when it prompts you to save it.
The images should now print normally.

Discs are printing with poor quality or poor color matching, streaks, banding, or missing colors.

A defective, empty or clogged cartridge will cause all of the problems listed above.

  1. Try a new cartridge. Make sure that the ink cartridge has ink remaining. We often get cartridges returned as "bad" when in reality they've just run out of ink.

  2. Manually Clean Cartridge. Follow this procedure:

    1. Remove the print cartridges.
    2. Moisten a lint-free cloth with water.
    3. Hold the cloth against the nozzles for three seconds. This will "wick" some additional ink onto the damp cloth.

    4. Wipe in the direction shown.
    5. Repeat the process.
NOTE: Even brand new cartridges may need cleaning. Depending on where the cartridge was purchased from, it may have been sitting in the resellers warehouse for several months before you received it. If you keep a lot of cartridges on hand, it may have been on your shelf for several months. If the cartridge is older than 90 days, even if it is sealed in its packaging, the nozzles can begin to dry out.

How do I use the templates that came with my MAC Disc Publisher to create a label?

Your printer driver allows you to create labels in most any graphics application. The driver will center the image and automatically crop it to the shape of a CD. This means you do not necessarily need a template to create a CD in your favorite graphics program. Simply create a custom page size of 120mm (4.72 inches) square and center your image in that area and the driver will do the rest. Because the driver crops the image to the shape of a CD, you do not want to make your design round. You will find it is best to "over bleed" your design by filling the whole 120mm area with your image. This ensures the outer and inner diameters will print perfectly round on your disc.

In order to help you design your label, included on the installation disc are templates in eps format. These templates will help you get started designing your label.

To use the template follow these steps:

  1. Open the template in Photoshop or Illustrator.
  2. Create a new layer for your image or graphics. (Make sure the template layer is on top of the image layer)
  3. Place your image or design your graphics on the new layer. Use the template as a guide for image and graphics placement.
  4. Before you print or save your image in another format, either hide the template layer or delete the template layer. The circular shape and center cut out should not be printed. Use it only as a guide to layout your image.

The Disc Publisher is printing on only one corner off my discs - It prints the rest on the printer tray. (MAC Only).

1. In Discus or any printing application, make sure to go to File - Page Setup.

2. Select Disc Publisher in the Format for: field.

3. Select CD/DVD in the Paper Size: field.

4. Click OK

If you do not select the printer or the paper size it may not print at all, or the application may assume that the page size is 8 1/2 x 11. This would cause the Disc Publisher to print part of the image on one portion of the disc and print the rest on the tray.

CD-DVD Label Graphic Design Tips for Beginners and Professionals.

Whether you contract your graphic design or do it yourself, these guidelines will help you get the best quality discs out of your Disc Publisher.

1. Image Size/Shape. The image should be a 4.72 x 4.72 (120mm) square. Circular images are not necessary since the print driver crops the outer margin and inner circle based the measurements specified in the printing preferences. If the image is circular the outer margin or inner circle size may not be adjustable.

2. Resolution. With the image size specified above, 300 dpi is sufficient to get the best possible quality from the image. Note: A 72 DPI image will look fine on screen but WILL NOT print well. Graphics and logos found on websites are typically 72 DPI. Resolutions higher than 300 dpi will not produce better quality but may require more RAM to print.

3. Image File Format. Most graphics are created in a graphic application. Since this graphic application is not usually on the same computer as the Disc Publisher doing the printing, it is necessary to export the graphic into universal format that can be read by other programs. We recommend TIF and BMP files for graphics. These formats are uncompressed. JPG files also work well for graphics that include photographs. All three formats can be imported into the SureThing application (PC) or the Discribe Application (Mac)

4. Color Mode. Set the color mode in the source graphic application to CMYK. In most cases this will produce the most accurate color reproduction of the image on screen. However, if CMYK is not producing the desired color matching try changing the source image to RGB and then exporting the image again in one of the universal formats mentioned above.

5. Text. Use white text or inversed logos or graphics for guaranteed sharp printing and ink conservation. Since printing white on a disc means not printing, the text or graphics will be extremely clear and ink consumption will be zero.

6. Importing. If you are using SureThing exclusively to design your labels you will not need to worry about the first four items on this list. SureThing automatically sets this up correctly. However, if you are importing images into SureThing you will still need to follow the guidelines set out above.

Note: Often it is useful to request that your graphic designer provide you with several different formats for you to try printing. For example you could request your image in six different formats: A JPG, BMP, and TIF in RGB color mode and a JPG, BMP and TIF in CMYK color mode.

PTPublisher jobs do not start after performing clean print.

The clean print completes with out problems but after this procedure if you attempt to start a job, the status screen appears and nothing happens.

To fix this issue, you must end the PTPublisher.exe task in task manager. Right click on the taskbar and choose Task Manager from the list. Select the applications tab - highlight PTPublisher and click the End Task button. Now reopen PTPublisher, setup your job and start it.

Why is cartridge alignment necessary?

Cartridge alignment is necessary for bidirectional printing. Bidirectional printing allows the printer to print on both left and right passes over a disc. This significantly increases print speed. During alignment, the print carriage scans the series of blocks it prints for the ones that line up. It then adjusts internal values accordingly. Because of unavoidable manufacturing variations from cartridge to cartridge the alignment procedure must be performed after each new cartridge to set the proper internal values for that particular cartridge.
